The Wasco County Area Watershed Coordinating Board has been formed that will provide coordination between Wasco County Area Watershed Councils. Voting members of the Coordinating Board come from each of the councils. Non-voting members include local state agencies, interested stakeholders, and Wasco Co. SWCD.

Recently, a unified set of By-Laws was adopted by all the watershed councils.

A county wide action plan was created with input from each of the councils and that will guide watershed restoration activities in the county. Prioritized projects will be incorporated into the Wasco Co. SWCD county-wide work plans for focused assistance and funding.

The Coordinating Board was formed as a direct result of the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board's restructuring of its Council Capacity Grant. The Coordinating Board's purpose will be to help Watershed Council's prioritize projects for funding and to ensure the watershed council's will meet the requirements of the newly designated "Out-Come Based" Watershed Council Capacity Grant.

Capacity Grant requirements for the watershed councils is similar to the same requirements that conservation districts must meet to comply with their Capacity Grant.

The demands of the Capacity Grant will also help the creation of a structure that will help to ensure the watershed council group meet legal and financial requirements.

A watershed is the area of land that drains into a particular body of water such as a stream, river, lake, or bay.
The watershed includes not only the waterway itself, but also the entire land area that drains to it.
