A watershed is the area of land that drains into a particular body of water such as a stream, river, lake, or bay.
The watershed includes not only the waterway itself, but also the entire land area that drains to it.
About the Mosier Watershed & Council
Wasco County Soil and Water Conservation District
The Mosier Watershed Council was formed on December 9, 1999 with the goal of addressing natural resource issues in Mosier Creek, Rock Creek and Rowena Creek Watersheds, and along the Columbia River in the Mosier area. The Councilís mission is to foster better stewardship of the natural resources in its watersheds, deal with issues in advance of resource degradation, and ensure sustainable watershed health, functions, and uses.
Participants include representatives of the agricultural community, city council, small landowners, timber industry, and the Native Plant Society. In addition, representatives of state and federal agencies have participated as technical advisors, including the Oregon Dept of Water Resources, Forestry, Fish and Wildlife, Parks and Recreation, Environmental Quality, and the USDA Forest Service. All landowners and area residents are considered members and are encouraged to attend and vote at meetings.
With financial support from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB), the Wasco County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) provides a paid coordinator to organize meetings and help administer projects.
The Mosier Watershed Council generally meets quarterly at the Mosier Grange. Please call Abbie Simmons at (541) 296-6178 x119 if you would like to receive meeting announcements, agendas, and minutes.
